Beckman Park was originally known at ‘Electric Park’, Kankakee’s first amusement park. Electric Park was complete with roller coasters, a dance pavilion, and bathing beach. The park closed in 1934 and KVPD changed its name to Waterman in honor of Frank D. Waterman. In 1956 the park was renamed once again to Beckman Park. The new Park name is in honor of Louis Beckman; former mayor of Kankakee and state senator.
